A Beneficiary Designation to Preserve the Arboretum’s Future
For Dan Goss and Jim Gurney, The Morton Arboretum is a “crown jewel of suburban Chicago,” offering natural beauty, tranquility, fond memories, and experiences in science. “We always enjoy our time at the Arboretum!” they shared. That’s why they have named the Arboretum as a beneficiary of their IRA and living trust.
“For us, the Arboretum is the ultimate enduring symbol of life that we can help perpetuate,” Dan says. “We are happy to be part of the community that wants to ensure that the Arboretum continues to thrive for the foreseeable future, so it can be that special place for so many people to experience nature in every season.”
Working with their estate attorney, Dan and Jim discovered the simplicity of using an IRA to contribute to an organization they hold dear. Having previously dedicated tribute trees to honor Dan’s mother and Jim’s grandmother, their planned gift provided them with a special way to honor their own passion for the Arboretum.
Both Dan and Jim agree, “We haven’t found any other natural space that comes close to the Arboretum, and for this, we must help protect it, preserve it, and enhance it for years to come.” Whether walking, hiking, biking, or taking countless photos throughout the seasons, they recognize the tremendous value of the Arboretum, and they encourage others to join them in making it part of their estate plans.
“Being at the Arboretum is good for the soul and must be enjoyed for generations to come,” Jim says. “The Morton Arboretum carries life forward—and by supporting it now and through our estate plans, we will have a lasting impact on an institution we care so deeply about.”
